What follows is rarely neat. Information arrives in fragments. Context is missing. An apparent pattern may be a coincidence, and an overlooked detail may turn out to matter.

Tycho starts with an interest in that space: the distance between having digital evidence and understanding what it can actually tell you.

The ambition is to build focused digital investigation tools that make useful work easier to follow. Software with a clear purpose, an inspectable process, and an honest account of its limitations.

That means giving as much attention to the details around a tool as to the tool itself: installation instructions that work, explicit requirements, versioned releases, and documentation that answers the next question.

Less noise.

A beginning, not a finished collection.

The lab is new. The first public tools have not been selected for release yet. There are no downloads to announce today, and no reason to dress up unfinished work as a finished product.

For now, this site establishes the space: a home for the tools when they’re ready, and a place to share some of the thinking along the way. Initial public releases are intended to be free to download; each will state its own license and support status.

If the work here has a guiding habit, it’s this: keep asking what else might be visible from a different angle.
